In March, the Dutch elect new municipal councils. This time the regular, daily walker gets more attention. In the Top 10 of Election Topics, compiled by the newspaper Trouw (February 24, 2018), this intention stands out: more benches! An analysis of party programmes across the country highlights this point. Another trend is the call for cheaper or free parking of cars in shopping centres. If this were to happen on a large scale, car use would increase. In this case walkers would have to deal with this.
In Amsterdam, a number of political parties argue that the pavements should be wide enough and more accessible. Not yet prominent attention for the pedestrian in the average neighborhood, but the beginning is there!
