Making trails accessible
The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a US based organization, buys land under neglected walkways and fixes paths.
- Citizens begin cleaning up debris, and then mobilize others who can contribute to construct paths.
- After completion of the new route, the land is sold to a local or regional stakeholder. In one city a network of 45 kilometers (‘Baltimore Walks’) connects residential neighborhoods and parks.
- Elsewhere, a historic migrants route westward (‘Oregon Trail’) has been updated.
- The TPL funds and suggests best practices for citizens.
